Address Bangbang, 113 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills, 9281 0018THERE are many clues to tell you Bangbang is owned and run by a Pom. The bright English accent on my friendly waiter is a bit of a giveaway. And the weekend menu is littered with dishes such as a Scottish-style breakfast of traditional black pudding, square-sliced sausage, tattie scone, two fried eggs and roasted tomato ($14.50) or a Welsh breakfast of mixed cheddar, English mustard, worcestershire sauce, flour and Guinness grilled on sourdough toast with roasted truss tomatoes ($10.90).However, there are just as many clues the owner, former Ministry of Sound DJ Alan Thompson, has taken to his new home of Sydney. Communal tables; large, open windows; edgy low-hanging light bulbs; and steel drummer's stools fit right in with trendy Surry Hills. He's also chosen to brew coffee from perennial Sydney favourite Campos. My latte ($3.30) is glorious; it's rounded and full, subtly sweet and caramelly with no harsh bitterness. Just what you need to soothe a fragile head. The menu is rigid (replacing baked beans in a big breakfast with, say, crispy pancetta is a no-no) but prices are nice and the organic, often home-made ingredients are delicious.
